Abstract Background The aim of this study was to determine the temporal evolution extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling and collagen biomarkers their influence on incisional hernia recurrence after IPOM plus repair. Methods A sub-cohort patients (n=25) undergoing laparoscopic repair within TACKoMesh randomised controlled trial were bled at serial timepoints up 1-year following surgery. Serum/plasma concentration (Procollagen I, Procollagen III, Fibronectin, TGF-beta, MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, TIMP-2) quantified using ELISA Luminex multiplex techniques.
